Ear candling is an ancient technique that is a gentle way to remove accumulated ear wax and relieve pressure in your ear canals that may be causing you some discomfort. A build-up of wax or ear pressure can cause symptoms like ringing in the ears and an uncomfortable blocked or pressured feeling. Candling your ears can also improve the symptoms of sinusitis and dizziness (vertigo). Ear Candles are inserted into the ear and lit at the far end to allow for a suction effect in a perfectly safe procedure that draws out ear wax and can relieve pressure for a lighter clearer feeling.

Used today in health spas and by healers to help promote personal well-being.

Using Ear Candles:

Use ear candles once every few months if you feel the need to clear your ears. You will need to get someone to help you use ear candles.

You will need:

  • Ear candles and paper disc (both included)
  • Lighter
  • Small bowl of water
  • Damp earbud

How to do it:

  • Insert the candle through the cross cut in the paper disc (the disc protects you from dripping wax).
  • Let the person receiving the ear candling lie on their side with the ear they want to treat facing upwards.
  • Carefully and gently insert the narrow end of the candle into the ear canal, don’t force it though.
  • Make sure it is securely placed.
  • You can hold the candle in place as you light the candle at the upper end.
  • If you see any smoke leaking out the base gently readjust until it stops.
  • Allow the candle to burn down as far as you are comfortable (about 3 to 5cm from the base).
  • Remove and douse the flame in the small bowl of water (DO NOT blow it out).
  • Wipe and clear the outer ear with the slightly moistened earbud swab to remove any residue.

The persons ears should feel lighter and less blocked. If their ear feels a little itchy after candling you can wipe it with a bit of oil such as sweet almond. Don’t use ear buds or drop oil into the ear canal.

Do not use ear candles:

  • After recent ear or nose surgery.
  • If you have grommets (ear tubes).
  • If you have bleeding or discharge from your ears.
  • If you have impacted wax.
